The vineyards in the foothills behind
McLaren Vale have always produced some of the regions finest wines,
the soils enriched from the hills above and the cooler climate
further tempered by the sea breezes off St Vincent’s Gulf, setting
the scene for high quality wine grapes.
In 1981 the Australian Wine Industry was in bad shape. Classic old vines, used to make fortified and red wines, were being removed and big companies were pulling out of the industry. Twenty four year old Geoff Hardy had recently graduated from Roseworthy Agricultural College and had seen how the Californian’s were grafting old vines over to new varieties.
Geoff formed a partnership with Ian Leask who already had a solid history in viticulture and was then managing the Ryecroft Vineyards. The vineyard was available for sale and this is how “ Pertaringa” – an Aboriginal name meaning ‘Belonging to the Hills” - was born.
Pertaringa is a hands on boutique wine company where all the staff are dedicated professionals concentrating on producing the highest quality grapes from low yielding vines and wines of truly exceptional quality. Why not try out these great wines.

This all time classic McLaren Vale liqueur fronti is as the name suggests a ‘Full Frontal’ fortified. This wine is a blend of liqueur fronti produced from the Pertaringa Vineyards for over 20 years. The Hardy and Leask families have been fortifying grapes in McLaren Vale well over 150 years, and today release the Full Fronti for fun rather than necessity. Frontignac is Australia’s synonym for ‘Muscat Blanc a Petit Grains’ thought to be the world’s oldest known and recognised vine. We hope that the Full Fronti will remain an all time classic. Tasting Note: The best of the best barrels have been chosen for this fortified wine, by our talent scout Mr Ben Riggs. This fronti stars Rancio, with dried fruit aromas including sultana, apricot and dates co-starring. The fruit flavours on the palate are a show not to be missed. This wine is the perfect encore for a fantastic meal. |

In recognition of McLaren Vale’s tradition of supplying other varieties and regions with our finest red grape, this Pertaringa Shiraz is named Undercover. The 2005 Undercover is made from old vine Shiraz fruit hand selected from Pertaringa’s five decade old vineyard and made by winemaker Mr. Ben Riggs. Pertaringa hopes that this very bottle of Undercover can reveal the essence of McLaren Vale Shiraz. Vintage: Season 2005 was characterised by very favourable growing conditions. Particularly mild temperatures, few sustained hot periods and well timed rainfall resulted in good quality, excellent ripening of fruit with full development of varietal characters. Tasting Note: A rich red plum colour, 2005 Undercover Shiraz is yet another stand out vintage. This wine displays complex aromas of cloves, chocolate and dark berries. The 2005 Undercover is perhaps more classic and savoury in style, it has a rich palate with chocolate, spice and lingering juicy fruit flavours balanced by fine grained oak tannin with an ever pleasing persistent long finish. |
