Established in 1776, Champagne Louis Roederer is one of the few remaining completely independent, family owned Champagne Houses. By 1886 the House had achieved such a reputation foe quality that the second Louis Roederer was asked by Tsar Alexander II to create Cristal for the exclusive use of the Russian Tsars, and in so doing created the first Cuvee de Prestige.
In January 2006, the management of the House passed from Jean-Claude Rouzaud to his son, making Frédéric Rouzaud the generation of the family at the head of the company. With 10 years already behind him at Louis Roederer, Frédéric’s accession is doubly valuable; as a guarantee of continuity for the House, and for the proven expertise he brings to this role.

Cristal, the jewel of Champagne Louis Roederer, was created in 1876 for the Tsar Alexander II of Russia. It remains faithful to its origin, inspired by elegance and purity. Cristal is produced with regimented standards of winemaking that require a rigorous selection of crus, vintages, grapes, and wine. Tasting Notes:Colour: Brilliant yellow with light amber highlights. A beautiful mousse with fine cordon of persistent and regular bubbles. Nose: Intense and delicate. Revealing a clean and well-blended mixture of flavours of honey, cocoa, lightly toasted hazelnuts, candied citrus fruit… without exuberance, but luxurious simplicity! Palate: A savoury explosion of ripe fruit on the attack, revealing red fruit, white chocolate, caramel and Danish pastry, typical of Cristal. Silky, concentrated texture, leaning on intense, powerful and vinous structure, but maintaining refinement. The palate builds up to attain a delicious sensation of well-blended harmony of flavours. A fresh finish with a hint of bitterness making it almost crunchy. All the exceptional characteristics of the 2002 vintage have literally been captured in this 2002 Cristal, which is generous and lush, revealing perfect balance between concentration and finesse, freshness and vinosity, intensity and refinement. In three words: proud, rich and luxurious. |
