Errazuriz Estate...
|
The Errazuriz Estate was founded in 1870 when
Don Maximiano Errazuriz planted his first vineyards at Panquehue
in the Aconcagua Valley - 100km North of the capital.
Recognising that this valley, with its cool, rainy winters, hot,
dry summers and moist Pacific Ocean breezes, was ideal for
growing grapes, Don Maximiano sent for the finest clones from
France and with tenacity and perseverance transformed this
barren land into a world class vineyard.
Today, the tradition of quality lives on with
Don Maximiano's descendant Eduardo Chadwick. Eduardo is the
fifth generation of his family to be involved in the wine
business.
Eduardo has overseen the modernisation of the
winemaking technology at this historic Estate whilst maintaining
a distinct identity for its wines. Dedicated to producing estate
grown wines of superior quality, Errazuriz has built a
reputation as the "Premier Family Wine Estate of Chile".
Errazuriz's philosophy is best expressed by
Don Maximiano who said, "From the best land, the best wine."
Viña Errazuriz believe in the concept of 'terroir' and strive to
produce the finest wines by controlling every stage of the
winemaking process, from grape growing in the Aconcagua,
Casablanca and Curico valleys, to winemaking with the most
natural techniques. An emphasis is placed on the delicate
handling of the wines, with the aim of producing wines with
elegance and complexity. |

The 2005 Chardonnay Wild
Ferment is a complex wine with a rich mineral and citric character.
The mouth-feel is soft and persistent with a high elegance and
finesse. Malolactic fermentation contributes buttery richness, while
the toast and vanilla of barrel ageing are well integrated in the
background.
The natural ferments add
distinctive notes and complex aromas to the wine. This is a wine
with a very interesting character and a beautiful balance due to its
excellent natural acidity. From mid-palate on the taste profile
expands and rounds out in a mineral and long lingering finish. With
proper cellaring, the wine should improve in the bottle for years to
come. |

Wild Ferment
Pinot Noir 2006 |

HATCH-219 |
Size |
6 x 75cl |
Price |
£72.90 |
|
The 2006 Pinot Noir Wild
Ferment is bright cherry-red in colour with unusual depth for this
variety. The nose is intense, with pronounced typicity, featuring
red fruits, such as raspberries and strawberries, along with a light
touch of damp earth and rose petals that lend elegance.
The subtle use of oak is
very well integrated with the fruit and adds great complexity. The
red berry flavours on the palate offer impressive fruit intensity,
while the smooth, ripe tannins speak of a fine structure that
balances well with the wine’s acidity, giving it a full, fresh
character. The finish is enhanced by soft tones of toast and caramel
from the French oak barrel ageing. |

This predominantly
Cabernet Sauvignon is intense, deep red in colour, Don Maximiano
2005 stands out for its ripe character of red fruits such as
cherries that blend with light notes of black currant, truffle, and
clove. Aromas of cigar box and black pepper contribute to a lightly
spicy side,
thereby raising its aromatic complexity.
Big and muscular on the
palate, with mouth filling tannins that reflect the predominance of
Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend. The remaining varieties lend
complexity, with Petit Verdot for freshness and nerve, Cabernet
Franc for tannins and its spicy aromatic profile, and Shiraz for its
sweet, ripe black fruit. French oak barrel ageing lends flavours of
caramel, chocolate, and cloves that linger nicely on the long
finish. |
