Delamain Cognac...
The
Delamain family have been handcrafting their exceptional Cognac
since 1824 and remain one of the last family owned houses. They
benefit from universal recognition as the leading specialist in the
blending and elevage of fine old Cognac using only eau-de-vie from
La Grande Champagne - the first great growth of Cognac. This is then
aged in seasoned oak casks for a minimum of two decades, before
being blended and bottled under the control and expertise of the
direct descendants of the founder James Delamain.
This skill and knowledge passed down through the generations was
honoured by the International Spirits Challenge in 2007 who awarded
Charles Braastad the trophy of Excellence in craftsmanship, perhaps
the highest accolade in the spirits world.

Delamain
Pale & Dry Grande Champagne Cognac was introduced as Delamains
standard-bearer in 1920, and represents 80 percent of the firm's
production. The label is a reproduction of a 17th century engraving
of the town and Château of Jarnac by Claude Chastillon. Named to
reflect its clean, dry purity of flavour, it is blended from a range
of Cognacs averaging 25 years of age.
Through the evaporation
of alcohol over time, it has been naturally reduced to approximately
53 percent alcohol; the final dilution is accomplished by the
gradual addition of "vieilles faibles," literally, very old, weak
Grand Champagne Cognacs of 15 percent alcohol, to a final strength
of 40 percent.
Brilliant pale gold in
colour, this superb Cognac is distinguished by its remarkable
delicacy and refinement. The grape and vanillin aromas are confirmed
on the palate, where intense yet elegant fruit flavours are offset
by floral and liquorice notes which linger in the extended finish. |

Delamain
Vesper Grande Champagne Cognac is blended from a range of cognacs
averaging approximately 35 years of age, brought to consumption
strength by the gradual addition of "vieilles faibles," very old,
weak Grande Champagne Cognacs of 15 percent alcohol content.
Introduced in 1953, it is named to reflect the serene, ethereal
quality of the sixth canonical hour when the evening services or
Vespers, are celebrated in hymn.
The label is a
reproduction of a 1790 cellar engraving by J.J. de Boissière. This
limpid, deep amber-gold Cognac is marked by vinous, woodsy aromas of
oak, grilled grape seeds and vanilla; the full, rich, mellow
flavours and elegant silky texture carry into a persistent finish. |

Delamain
Très Vénérable Grande Champagne Cognac is blended from a range of
Cognacs averaging 45 to 50 years of age, which have been reduced by
natural evaporation to approximately 45 percent alcohol by volume.
It is brought to 40 percent consumption strength by the gradual
addition of "vieilles faibles," very old, weak Grande Champagne
Cognacs showing a natural alcohol content of 15 percent.
The unusual label design
is taken from a French Revolutionary bank note. Introduced in 1976,
this rare Cognac is inspires the respect and reverence its name, and
age, suggest.
Brilliant deep topaz in
colour with gold highlights, its profound, complex bouquet reveals
subtle nuances of dried fruits, liquorice and mellowed oak. An
initial freshness and delicacy on the palate unfold into a rich,
palette of mature flavours underscored by sophisticated "rancio,"
notes of fruitcake and cheese. A Cognac of perfect balance with
exceptional length on the finish. |

Delamain
Réserve de la Famille Grande Champagne Cognac is an exceedingly
rare, unblended, single-cask Cognac distilled by one grower in the
village of St.-Preuil. First released in 1984, it is the epitome of
the Delamain style. The bottle is appropriately dressed with a
handmade, pure hemp paper label produced at the Moulin du Verger
near Angoulême.
Aged 15 years by the
grower and 40 in Delamains cellars, it has achieved a natural
alcoholic content of 43 percent from 55 years in cask, the strength
at which it is bottled, undiluted. Released infrequently and in
limited quantity, this exquisite Cognac shows an unrivalled breed
and elegance, with notes of liquorice, toast and the classic "rancio
charentais" lingering through to the unforgettable finish. |

What
makes this Cognac extraordinary is the blend of extremely old eaux-de-vie
that has been nurtured in the famous demi-johns in the Delamain
cellars.
These glass vessels
protect the ancient spirit that has matured in to a veritable
treasure. Such an elixir traces the history of Delamain and
represents a living archive of the house.
These treasures from the
last century, inestimable and ultra rare should only be seen on
exceptional occasions. ‘Le Voyage de Delamain’ invites you to

The blend of Cognacs
reveals a host of subtle sensations: all the perfumes of Russian
leather, the musky aroma of the Tropics, the heady scent of tobacco
from the Americas, of coffee from Africa heralding the spicy hints
of the Far East and finally the bouquet of grapes from the hillsides
of the Grande Champagne.
‘Le Voyage de Delamain’
is the heart of the jewel, housed in a magnificent Baccarat decanter
with the purest curves and lines and surrounded by an exquisite
leather casket evoking the traditional bellows used for luggage in
times gone by. |
