France - Burgundy - Bourgogne Blanc

Fully 384 separate villages throughout the Burgundy wine region are permitted to produce wine labelled Bourgogne. Given the enormous number of microclimates involved in an area so vast, it is difficult to pinpoint a typical style. At the most basic level, Bourgogne is the general term for a wine from Burgundy. So Bourgogne Blanc, Bourgogne Rouge and Bourgogne Rose are "White Burgundy," "Red Burgundy" and "Rose Burgundy" respectively. Bourgogne Blanc is almost always made from the chardonnay grape.

Of course, chardonnay takes on many forms depending on a variety of factors such as soil, climate, etc. Still, given that Burgundy is cooler than most New World wine regions, the wine has greater acidity and a sleeker overall feel on the palate, making it a versatile partner with a gamut of foods. As Bourgogne Blanc is typically the entry level wine of most domains, the prices remain reasonable.
