Saint-Joseph
or St.-Joseph is a French wine Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC)
in the northern Rhône wine region of France.
Though the appellation covers the largest amount of land, it is second in actual size under vine to Crozes-Hermitage, an appellation with which it shares much regardin style and prestige.
St.-Joseph is primarily a red wine region based on the Syrah grape with a small amount of white (Roussanne or Marsanne) grapes in the blend.
Around 10% of the wine is white wine, based on Marsanne and/or Roussanne.

Tasting Note: Ruby red in colour with an elegant perfumed fruity nose of raspberry, blueberry, violet and pepper. Fruity, juicy and on the lean side, but firm on the finish. Vinification Note: In recent years as part of the revival of interest in Rhone Valley wines, a group of mostly young growers, all working with consultant oenologist Jean Luc Colombo, has coalesced, called Rhone Vignobles. Colombo has generated interest - and some controversy - with his ultra modern ideas, yet each grower most definitely makes his own wines. Yves Cuilleron is one such grower, producing this Cote Rotie which is an elegant, spicy Syrah with concentration and firm structure. Since taking over from his uncle, Yves Cuilleron has transformed the estate into one of the appellation's finest. He managed to increase the estate from 4ha to 17ha. |
