Laurent-Perrier Champagne...
Founded in 1812, Laurent-Perrier is
recognized, throughout the world, as one of the finest of
Champagne Houses.
This success derives, first and foremost,
from a clear determination to abide by long-established
traditions: respect for nature and wine, dedication to quality
and strong and lasting relationships with all those associated
with the company. It is also the result of the energy expended
by a family, led by Bernard de Nonancourt, which has striven to
maintain the House’s independence and values in a challenging
business environment.
Today more than ever, these same values guide
the work of the team now led by Yves Dumont. A free spirit, he
has been the driving force behind the creative winemaking that
has produced a unique and highly successful range of Champagnes.
They are made by a team led by Alain Terrier, a chef de cave who
is recognized as one of the best in Champagne. The wines are
unique not only because of the philosophy that has inspired
them, but also for their style and flavour, and the consistency
of quality.
The result is a range of wines that are
simply “vins de plaisir”. They are made to be enjoyed and are
requested, over and over, by Champagne lovers. The range is
sufficiently diverse to suit many occasions, and Laurent-Perrier
has no higher aim than that of providing wine-trade
professionals around the world with Champagnes that will seduce
and continue to please those who seek their advice. Such
customers come to them not only for the prestige of a great wine
and the distinction that this conveys, but also to discover
unusual and varied pleasurable taste sensations.

While champagne shows
the character of a specific harvest, non-vintage brut exemplifies
the style of a particular House. Freshness, elegance and balance,
all of which are typical of Laurent-Perrier's wines, are found in
the Brut L-P year after year.
Chardonnay, is the
dominant grape variety and its proportion is unusually high for a
non-vintage champagne blend, being double the average. The blend is
made of wines from more than 55 crus or villages and between 10 and
20% of reserve wines are used. Brut L-P is aged on its lees for
approximately three years and only a very light dosage is used to
preserve its balance and natural freshness.
The colour is a pale
golden hue, with fine and persistent bubbles. The nose is fresh and
delicate, showing good complexity with its hints of citrus and white
fruit. With its elegant style, Brut L-P has led the way in making
champagne the ideal apéritif. Perfectly balanced, with crisp
flavours and finesse, it is also an ideal companion for fish,
poultry and white meat |

Its creation is
contemporary like that of Nouvelle Cuisine. Similar to this lighter,
purer way of preparing food, Laurent-Perrier Ultra Brut appears
without make-up, in its natural form. It is a brut nature champagne,
that is, with no dosage, and making it requires considerable
know-how. Its style appeals to a growing number of wine-lovers who
discover with it many new ways of enjoying champagne.
The blend combines a
small majority of chardonnay with pinot noir and is made exclusively
with grapes from very ripe harvests. Bunch selection is rigorous, to
ensure that only the grapes with high sugar levels and low acidity
are retained. These conditions are necessary to create a finished
champagne that has the required balance without any dosage. The
ageing is long, lasting for at least four years.
Its delicate finish,
which leaves the palate fresh, and its subtle balance make this the
most versatile champagne in Laurent-Perrier's range. Its capacity to
bring out flavours in food makes it ideal from apéritif to dessert.
This champagne pairs well with caviar or foie gras, seafood or
oysters - and even accompanying a cigar at the end of a meal.

To produce
Laurent-Perrier’s luxury cuvée, Bernard de Nonancourt decided to
concentrate on two of the mainstays of Champagne’s know-how: the
blending of different crus (wines from separate villages) and from
different harvest years.
The epitome of Champagne
blending, Grand Siècle calls on wines from the finest growths and
the very best harvests; years which have been declared as vintages
by Laurent-Perrier. Made to be given or shared with friends and
family, it is a very seductive Champagne, totally enjoyable.
Grand Siècle is a blend
of pinot noir and chardonnay, with the latter being slightly
dominant. The grapes are supplied by twelve of the most prestigious
crus or villages, all of them Grands Crus classified at 100%, such
as Ambonnay, Verzenay, Mailly, Avize, Cramant, Chouilly and Le
Mesnil-sur-Oger. Within the vineyards of these crus, only the very
best plots are selected, as are the finest musts from the pressings.
The blended wine is then aged for about 5 years.
It is brilliant yellow
in colour, and has subtle aromas of honey, hazelnuts, grilled
almonds and brioche, making it the perfect companion for refined
dishes. It also pairs wonderfully with poultry and truffles as with
veal and morel mushrooms.

Laurent-Perrier has
elected to be highly selective by only producing a vintage in the
very best years. This means that the BRUT MILLESIME is an
exceptional and rare wine. Staying true to the House style: pure in
its flavours and crisp in its definition, it aims to show the
quintessential character of each year. Laurent-Perrier’s vintage
wines have excellent ageing capacity.
Laurent-Perrier Brut
Millésimé is composed of roughly equal parts of chardonnay and pinot
noir - though the exact amounts vary depending on the
characteristics of each vintage - and has considerable cellaring
capacity.
The Brut Millésimé is
made exclusively from wines from the very best crus or villages.
Historically, most of these crus have formed the basis of
Laurent-Perrier's champagnes. The most prestigious among them are:
Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Avize, Cramant, Chouilly, Ambonnay, Bouzy,
Tours-sur-Marne and Louvois. Ageing in our cellars lasts for at
least six years, and very light dosage is used to allow the wine to
reveal its true nature.

This champagne is famous
for its highly expressive bouquet, which stems from the very careful
preservation of the grape's natural fresh red fruit aromas. It is
one of the rare rosé champagnes to be made using the maceration
(skin contact) technique, which gives it the extraordinary depth and
freshness that has made it the benchmark for rosé champagne around
the world. Revered by wine-lovers for its flavours and by aesthetes
for the beauty of its 17th century-style bottle, the Cuvée Rosé Brut
is one of the stars in the Laurent-Perrier range.
Meticulous sorting of
the grape bunches and controlled maceration help extract the colour
and reveal the full aromatic richness of the pinot noir grapes.
Unlike most rosé champagnes, the basis of Laurent-Perrier Cuvée Rosé
Brut is obtained by drawing the juice from black grapes in the vat,
not only by blending red and white wines. It is cellared for at
least four years, but cellaring may be adapted to preserve the fresh
red fruit aromas.
The Cuvée Rosé Brut
makes a delicious apéritif. It pairs very well with charcuterie and
poultry, and is an extraordinary match for red fruit desserts. The
more daring will try it with Asian cuisine.

Cuvée Alexandra Rosé 1997 |

Bernard de Nonancourt
took the opportunity of his elder daughter Alexandra’s marriage in
1987 to create this vintage rosé Champagne. It expresses the very
highest standards epitomised by the House of Laurent-Perrier, which
also produces the benchmark non-vintage rosé Champagne. It was
therefore a natural progression to produce a luxury cuvee rosé, an
exclusive and rare wine that occupies a unique niche in its range.
Alexandra Rosé is made
from wines from the finest growths and exemplifies Laurent-Perrier's
very high standards. The pinot noir undergoes a short maceration
before chardonnay is added for finesse. Ageing takes between 5 and
10 years, according to the characteristics of the vintage.
The result is a
delicately-coloured wine with unique and complex aromatic depth.
The style of this wine
is marked by a deep salmon-pink hue and fine bubbles with rich
aromas of preserved citrus fruit and a gentle touch of orange peel.
There is great length and grip on the palate, which finishes with
notes of very ripe, red fruits. The natural power of Alexandra Rosé
gives it the capacity to go with strongly flavoured dishes such as
game birds with cranberry sauce.
