Umani Ronchi...
The unique and
recognizable style of Umani Ronchi wines comes from the Marche
region, framed by glorious hills that meet the waters of the
Adriatic Sea.
For many centuries
the vine has flourished in this environment, favoured by long
hours of sunshine followed by cool nights, and sea breezes that
mitigate the colder winter months.
Indeed this region
is well suited for viticulture: Marches have in themselves the
environment for a prestigious viticulture, and Umani Ronchi has
profited from their treasures: clavey soils of medium density
for white wines, loose and calcareous for red wines.
With such a
favourable climate and soil, the remaining factor that generates
success is: our passion. Since the beginning they have pursued
the principal aim of the highest quality production, and in more
than 30 years they have refined this art.
Careful selection
of the grapes on the plant, very low yields per hectare,
continuous experimentations on the vineyard and in the cellar,
strict laboratory controls.
All that, and more,
contribute to the unique style of the wines.

contribution from the oak lasks which are kept in the picturesque
cave at Osimo, in which San Lorenzo is aged.
Brilliant ruby red colour with garnet tints. The nose is sweet,
predominantly fruity, with typical notes of morello cherry. Rich and
pulpy in the mouth, flavourful and pleasantly harmonious, with silky

Montepulciano D'abruzzo Jorio 2004 |
|
Bin No |
EN2168 |
Size |
1 x 75cl |
Price |
£11.15 |
|
Grape Varieties:
100% Montepulciano. Jorio
was created in the mid-nineties to express the great potential of
this varietal, in collaboration with fanatically dedicated Abruzzese
winegrowers with vineyards in particularly favourable areas for its
growth. The name of the wine is intended as a tribute to the great
twentieth-century Abruzzese poet Gabriele D'Annunzio, who made his
wild, provincial native soil into a “barbaric” novelty, exciting and
transgressive, with which he stirred and won the public’s favour.
Here is D’Annunzio’s dedication to his pastoral tragedy The daughter
of Jorio: “To the land of Abruzzi, to my mother, to my sisters, to
my brother in exile, to my buried father, to all my dead, to all my
people between the mountains and the sea, this song of ancient blood
I consecrate". Deep ruby
red, recalls plums and red cherries on the nose, followed by
balsamic and salty notes on a background of ripe liquorice. With
eloquent and clean tannins in the mouth, it comes across as full and
vigorous, with a long and intense finish. |

Cumaro Rosso
Conero 2004 |
|
Bin No |
EN2618 |
Size |
1 x 75cl |
Price |
£20.00 |
|
Grape Varieties:
100% Montepulciano.
Cumaro Rosso Conero was created in the mid eighties to celebrate the
Montepulciano variety of vine, and an area close to the sea with
highly calcareous soils, using methods based on very strict
selection of grapes in the vineyard and what were, at least for
then, modern techniques of vinification and ageing.
The name Cùmaro is a
tribute to Mount Conero, komaros in Greek, which means ‘arbutus’: an
evergreen shrub which grows freely in its woodlands. Since 2004 the
wine has been entitled to the appellation DOCG (Guaranteed and
Controlled Denomination of Origin) Conero Riserva.
Deep ruby red colour
with garnet tints, presenting an intense bouquet, with the emergence
at the start of fine ripe plum, blackcurrant and morello fruit, and
a spiced finish of black pepper, vanilla and tobacco. Soft and
enfolding in the mouth, with well-smoothed tannins and a pleasant
chocolatey finish.
Grape Varieties:
100% Montepulciano. |

pleasant and drinkable wine which goes with many different kinds of
