E Pira...
The estate, as it stands in the village of
Barolo, was once the property of Luigi Pira, and after his
demise the estate was bought by the Pira Boschis family. In 1990
a young lady with an economics degree and a serious knowledge of
the regions vinous produce took over. The Chiara Boschis estate
is as small and perfectly formed as she is, and although the
past 14 years have proved a steep learning curve assistance from
both family and friends, especially her comrades in the Langhe
In, have proved invaluable, and she is now a star in her own
right.
It is also worth noting that all the work in
the vineyard and cellars are done by Chiara, lest someone less
scrupulous should affect the quality. The Nebbiolo comes from
her Cannubi sub zones and the Dolcetto and Barbera are all from
fruit within her estate. The fruit has a light maceration on the
skins and is then transferred to oak barrique to age without
filtration. The results are, without being clichéd, invariably
feminine, silky and exceptionally seductive.

Viticulture &
Vinification Details: Pruning takes place in winter while later on
the winegrower selects bunches to reduce the amount of fruits when
still on the vine. This allows a better concentration of the grapes
qualities for the wines. Fermentation took place at the Barolo
wineries, using stainless steel tanks kept at a controlled
temperature and following frequent pumping over stages.
Tasting Note: The intense and
brilliant colour perfectly expresses the polyphenols of a very
successful Nebbiolo. On the nose it develops gradually its richness;
the initially fruity and spicy aromas envelop notes of sour cherry
and raspberry, while hints of cocoa and vanilla make the bouquet
even more intriguing. |

Tasting Note: Ruby red, intense when
young, tending to slight garnet. The bouquet is intense yet
delicate. The palate is dry, full-bodied and typically bitterish. As
it ages it will become more refined assuming a full and harmonious
flavour. |

Bright reddish-purple in
colour. Aromas of ripe blackberries and plums are mirrored in the
flavours. A direct, Zinfandel-like fruitiness combined with
Merlot-like soft tannins make it charmingly seductive. |
