Italy - Tuscany - Cecchi

The Cecchi family trace their winemaking roots to 1893 when Luigi Cecchi set up his own business as a wine taster and broker in the Poggibonsi region. In the 1970s, Cecchi moved to Castellina in Chianti, an area which has traditionally produced Chianti Classico.

Since then its reputation has gone from strength to strength becoming one of the leading producers in Tuscany and beyond. The Cecchi family now own four properties: Villa Cerna in the Chianti Classico region, Castello di Montauto at San Gimignano, Val delle Rose near Grosseto, in the Tuscan Maremma, the production area for the Morellino di Scansano and Tenuta Alzatura at Montefalco, in Umbria.

Since 2004, following the death of Luigi (the son of the founder), his sons Cesare and Andrea, along with their mother Anita, have run the company with enthusiasm and passion.

Grape Varieties: 100% Vermentino.

Food Matching Note: Ideally served between 10-12°C this Vermentino is brilliant on its own or with light seafood or fish dishes.

Tasting Note: Straw yellow in colour with slight gold reflections it has an intense fruity bouquet that suggests mature exotic fruits. The palate shows a strong flavour together with aromatic notes and well balanced fresh acidity.

Vinification Note: The Vermentino vineyards are located in the Tuscan part of the Maremma, and in particular south of the city of Grosseto. They are 150 m. (less than 1/10 of a mile) above sea level on the surrounding hills. The wine undergoes classic modern white wine vinification. After harvesting the grapes the must is cold settled and fermented for approximately 3 weeks at 15°C (59° F). The fermentation process and subsequent operations are carried out in steel containers. The wine is then released without any oak ageing to be enjoyed in its youth.

Vinification Note: Bonizio is a new addition to the Cecchi range, born out of the strong bond of the Cecchi family and the Maremma area. It is also the product of over 10 years research and development conducted on the region and the local Sangiovese grape variety.

Bonizio is produced entirely from Sangiovese grapes and with the characteristic Maremma signature. This is an area that due to its soil and climate, can guarantee the consistent maturation of Sangiovese, giving it a remarkable personality.
