Mud House Winery...
Named after a mud block house which was built
in the founding vineyard, the Mud House Wine Company produced
its first wines in 1996.
Since then, the company has grown from 300
cases to 75,000 cases of annual production today.
Sold both
nationally and internationally, the demand for the wines has
meant that Mud House is now part of NZ Vineyard Estates, the
pre-eminent wine company in the emerging Waipara region of New
Zealand.
Marlborough- with one of the longest ripening
periods in the world – provides most of the company’s
production, with Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc capturing the
imagination of wine drinkers across the globe. 2007 will see the
launch of the company’s first range of premium Pinot Noirs from
Central Otago.

Colour: Pale
straw. Nose:
Lifted aromas of crushed herbs, currants, nettles, lime and minerals
with underlying guava and passion fruit notes.
Palate: A dry crisp wine with typical Marlborough flavours of
guava, currants, minerals, lime and passion fruit. Rich in mouth
feel, the mouth-watering acidity leads to a long lingering finish.
Comments: Each
parcel of fruit was carefully monitored during ripening so it could
be harvested as optimum maturity. The fruit parcels were transported
with haste for immediate pressing with minimal skin contact to avoid
juice deterioration. After settling, each batch was cool fermented
in stainless steel using a variety of cultured yeasts to add
complexity to the blend and to retain fresh fruit characteristics.
The wines were blended shortly after the completion of fermentation,
then carefully balanced and prepared for bottling.
Vineyard Region: A selection of vineyard parcels from both
the upper and lower Wairau valley and Awatere valley.
Vineyard Conditions: A very cold start to the season resulted
in low crops and slow maturity. Then the heat of summer arrived,
allowing flavours to accumulate; cool evenings maintained fresh
acidity and ideal flavours. Perfect conditions for harvesting. |

ruby.
Nose: Sweet
lifted aromas of cherries and plums with a hint of currants and
integrated savoury and toasty oak notes.
Palate: A
medium-bodied, easy drinking wine with a soft, full palate and
balanced acidity. Cherry and savoury flavours dominate, supported by
hints of plum and red currant.
Comments: The fruit for this wine was selected from low
cropping vineyards in the Wairau Valley. The fruit was brought to
the winery where it was quickly de-stemmed and chilled. During
fermentation in stainless steel open top tanks, the fruit was hand
plunged up to six times a day before pressing and maturation in a
mix of new and used French oak. The wine was then blended,
stabilised, fined and prepared for bottling.
Vineyard Region: Marlborough.
Vineyard Conditions: The 07 Mud House Pinot is all from
vineyards in the Wairau Valley, about 60% were from the Conders Bend
area (Riversleigh, Maginess, Joslin) and the rest are scatted
through the valley. |
