Winemaker Notes: The 2014 Casablanca Single Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc has a pale yellow colour with greenish hues. Expressive and delicately intense on the nose, it offers notes of citric and tropical fruits such as grapefruit and passion fruit entwined with aromas of tomato leaves and green chili peppers. Of medium body, this expressive and elegant Sauvignon Blanc replicates the same aromas on the palate combining them with a balanced acidity in its long, fresh and persistent ending..
Vineyard: The grapes for the 2014 Single Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc come from the La Escultura vineyard, a property located in the Casablanca Valley, just a few kilometres from the Pacific Ocean.
Vintage: The 2013-2014 season was moderately warm, with rather low yields due to spring frosts and a slightly lower mean temperature from October to April. From October to January, and compared to the previous season, the maximum averages were higher and the minimum averages stayed similar. The absence of rain in spring and summer made it possible for us to produce very healthy grapes. The 2013-2014 season reached a total heat summation of 1,041 GDD between October and April, an increase of 2% compared to the previous season and of 7% in relation to the historic average.
Winemaking: The grapes were harvested by hand during the morning hours and then carefully transported in small 14-kilo boxes and 400-kilo bins to the winery, where they were destemmed, crushed and pressed to best preserve their natural acidity. To keep its aromatic potential, most of the juice was fermented in stainless steel tanks at 12¼-15¼C using yeasts specially selected for their ability to develop aromatic compounds at low temperatures. Special care was taken at every step of the process, preventing the grapes or the must to come in touch with oxygen thus preserving the typical fruity and fresh aromas of the variety. The wine was kept with its fine lees for three months to develop a soft texture and volume on the palate.
Tasting Notes: Matching the right grape variety to the right location, is the simple formula Errazuriz use in this classic and refreshing Sauvignon Blanc, hailing from the Pacific influenced La Escultura Estate in the Casablanca Valley.
