Angostura Rum...
In 1936 Robert E. Siegert, great-grandson of
Angostura’s founder, laid the foundation for today's Trinidadian rum
industry by initiating the construction of a modern distillery at Port
of Spain for the production of column distilled rums. Equally important,
Siegert built a research laboratory at the distillery to ensure the
utmost quality control standards were maintained.
This legacy has insured that Angostura is now one of
the most advanced and technologically sophisticated rum producing
facilities within the Caribbean.
70 years on and all Angostura rums are still
distilled from the fermented product of sugar cane; in this instance
molasses, a by - product of sugar production.
Angostura source over 50% of their molasses
domestically, because Trinidadian molasses are exceptionally rich in
residual sugars, due to traditional extraction methods still employed on
the island. These high quality molasses give rise to higher alcohol
extraction and finer rums.
Entwined with Trinidad's colourful and rich heritage
it seems natural that Angostura has found itself home to the island’s
largest butterfly collection. With over 8,000 specimens on display
including several extremely rare species that have the distinction of
being seen and captured only the once.
These rare and beautiful butterflies, normally found
amongst the sweetest sugar cane now adorn this premium range of
Angostura rums.

A blend of light and heavy rums distilled in
Angostura’s five-column continuous still. The rum is aged in
American oak Bourbon barrels between three and eight years.
After aging the rum is twice filtered through
charcoal to remove impurities and the golden colour it has acquired
during barrel aging. It is then blended and bottled.
This rum is light and exceptionally smooth and
can be drunk on its own, in contrast to using it exclusively with
mixers.
Angostura three year old rum is a characterful,
light to medium bodied spirit. On the nose it has delicate notes of
citrus, tropical fruits and banana.
Whilst on the palate it is rounded with vanilla,
gentle spices and coconut milk. |

A blend of light and
heavy rums distilled in Angostura’s five-column continuous still.
The rum is aged in American oak Bourbon barrels for between five and
eight years.
After ageing
individually the rum is lightly filtered through charcoal to remove
impurities, but not so much as to alter the inherently rich flavour
or the wood induced, pale amber colours. It is then blended and
bottled.
This is an energetic and
flavourful rum that is exceptionally smooth. It plays an excellent
role in a wide array of cocktails, contributing an attractive
colour, taste and aroma to the drink.
Angostura five year old
has an attractive pale gold hue. On the nose it has subtle notes of
burnt caramel, spices and vanilla intermingled with an apple
fruitiness. On the palate it is rich, mellow and smooth with an
almost fruitcake-like taste profile. |

1824 is a superb blend
of heavy and medium bodied rums, which are aged for a minimum of 12
years. By skilfully controlling the fermentation process, all the
favourable flavour components derived from the molasses and yeast
interactions are retained. Implementing specialised techniques
adapted for 5 column continuous distillation produces a spirit with
an ideal flavour profile for ageing.
1824 has a seamless rich
dark-amber colour. Captivating on the nose with a seductive,
marriage of sweet molasses, vanilla, orange zest, honey, raisins and
delicate spices.
Powerful yet smooth,
with dark chocolate flavours entwined with vanilla, 1824 conveys a
predominant aged character with a finish that is remarkably long and
extremely pleasant.
Only 5,000 cases of this
special rum are produced in any given year, making it one of the
most sought after luxury rums in the world. |
