San Valentino, 2009 Sangiovese di Romagna Superiore.

Grapes: 100% Sangiovese.

Vinification Note: Sourced from the Rimini region of Emilia Romagna, where the 10yr old vines are planted on clay and limestone soils, rich but with good drainage. Harvesting is in September and the grapes are immediately de-stemmed and crushed upon reception at the winery. Fermentation is for 15 days in steel and 2yr old barriques, then all the wine is aged for 6 months in barrique where malo-lactic fermentation is also completed. After bottling with no filtering, the wine ages for 3 months before release.

Tasting Note: Rich, ripe nose of dusty blackberry fruits, cherries and smoky oak characteristics. The palate is medium bodied, soft and dry, with generous black fruits, good supportive structure with balancing acidity and a complex, lengthy finish.
