Although Pazo de Barrantes has been the ancestral hope to Creixell family since the 15th century, and where Albariño has been grown and made for generations, it was not until 1982, when the vineyards were re-planted, and 1991 that the winery was built, that it became a commercial winery.
Located in the Salnés valley, just a few kilometres from the Galicia coast, the winery boasts 12 hectares of Albariño surrounding the winery. All the vines are trained high on supporting wires, in the local tradition, to guard against mildew and rot, and also to assist ripening. Yields at the estate are normally 8-9.000 Kg/Ha, and production is around 100.000 bottles per year.

Pazo de Barrantes continues to consolidate itself as the leading, quality winery of the Rias Baixas (without doubt Spain's best white wine producing area). Full nose with developed apricot and peachy notes mixed with ripe apple. Well balanced palate, the acidity is crisp without being sharp, fruits are soft and ripe, dominance of apricot character. With excellent texture as well as noteworthy purity, it will provide lovely drinking over the next year. |
