Roda...
Bodegas Roda is undoubtedly one of the most
exciting new developments in the Spanish wine scene to have
occurred for decades. A true super-winery offering three
different wines that are nothing less than astonishing.
At the very cutting edge of the new Spain,
these are wines that help define the direction for the fine
wines of Iberia. That they come from Rioja is far from
coincidental - the heartland of the best Tempranillo that Spain
had produced for centuries, but it is not necessarily Roda's aim
to make the best Rioja, but rather to be authors of the very
best wines possible.
To this end, Mario Mario Rottlant and Carmen
Daurella commissioned an exhaustive analysis of best vineyard
sites in La Rioja Alta. They found seventeen separate vineyards
that produced superlative fruit and purchased the land or signed
long-term contracts with their owners.
These seventeen vineyards, between 30 and 90
years old, are meticulously farmed and the grapes are vinified
separately until it is decided which of the Roda range wines the
fruit will become. Naturally the yields are kept extraordinarily
low to maximise concentration.
The end results are amazingly deeply
structured, flavour some wines that win the heart of all those
who try them..

RODA I is the blend from
those plots which in that year have produced grapes of black, ripe
fruit characters. The deep, dark, black fruit is almost always
dominated by plum aromas together with mineral and chocolate notes,
balsamic flavours, all of which form a whole which flows slowly from
the very bottom of the glass, developing hugely as it reaches the
expectant nose of the taster.
On the palate, the
fullness of the wine comes through clearly, the fruit complexity
gently coating the mouth with masses of sweet tannins. The wine
shows great length with a finish of fruit and freshness that lingers
on well after swallowing, inciting the taster to sip again. These
are wines to accompany gastronomic food and to appreciate in the
company of fellow enthusiasts.
Prior decanting can
enhance the wine.

In the blending of RODA
RESERVA, the wines are from plots of red berry fruit characters,
with aromas that are to the fore, ready for immediate enjoyment,
with sweet spice notes and delicious freshness.
On the palate, the red berry fruit should come through, with a
refreshing mouth-feel, length, silky texture and continuous volume.
They are excellent wines for gastronomic meals, very versatile, go
well with fish, roast meat or a complex casserole dish.
