Scotch Single Malt Whisky - Glen Scotia
Stewart, Galbraith and Co. built the distillery in 1832 in the heart of Campbeltown. The distillery is said to be haunted by Duncan MacCallum who bought the distillery in 1924. He committed suicide by drowning himself in Campbeltown Loch in 1930 after realizing he had been cheated out of a fortune by swindlers.
Although 1 million was spent on upgrading the distillery between 1979 and 1982 its then owner closed the distillery in 1984.
Gibson International reopened the distillery in 1989, however the company went into receivership in 1994 and the distillery lay silent once more. The distillery has been producing reasonable quantities of whisky in recent years, although the buildings and equipment aren't in the best of shape. Rumours of a heavily peated version sound very interesting.

Nose: big bourbony overture: powering burnt honey and leather but the malt’s still there. Taste: superb intensity: the malt really does come alive.
