Scotch Single Malt Whisky - Tamnavulin
The Tamnavulin Distillery was established in 1966 by Tamnavulin-Glenlivet Distillery Co Ltd. which was part of Invergordon Distillers Ltd. The distillery was created in response to the demand by blenders for malt whisky.
The name Tamnavulin means "mill on the hill" in Gaelic and it is the only distillery actually situated next to the River Livet. At one time, Tamnavulin was partially utilized for wool carding. Shepherds within the area collected from the flocks which were scattered throughout the hills.
Whyte & Mackay purchased Invergordon Distillers in 1993 for £382m. Included with the purchase came several other distilleries such as the Invergordon grain distillery on the Cromarty Firth in the Highlands, Bruichladdich, Jura and Tullibardine. Unfortunately, a couple of years later in 1995 the Tamnavulin Distillery was mothballed.

Nose: just wonderful barley: it comes at you from all directions and in varying degrees and forms of sweetened (and dryness). Taste: oh my gosh… even better on palate where the, intensity of that barley defies belief. Arrives in a beautiful mix of lush grassy sharp tones and sweeter, more sugar-tinged lighter notes; the tongue simply cannot stop working against the palate; such is the richness and controlled intensity. Finish: a few citrus notes creep in before the oak has a chance to establish its vanilla and cocoa-minced territory. Balance: as healthy a specimen of Speyside 20-year-old as you are likely to find.
