Edinburgh’s first gin for over 150 years has launched in the heart of the capital. Pickering’s Gin distilled at Summerhall, the former Dick Vet building, sees the first small batch of gin being distilled, bottled, labelled and sold in Edinburgh.
Based on an original Bombay recipe, it has been kept secret for 66 years and only resurfaced last year when the founders, Matt Gammell and Marcus Pickering, began distilling at Summerhall Distillery. The original recipe, handwritten on a fragment of paper dated 17 July 1947, has been fine-tuned by the Edinburgh businessmen, perfecting its balance of botanicals and tweaking it to the contemporary palate.
The beautifully crafted small batch gin contains 9 botanical including juniper, coriander, cardamom and fennel.
Pickering’s Gin is bottled in a chunky solid square shaped glass bottle with each top sealed with a waxed removable label and retails at £29.50.
