NOSE: ah the layering – Textbook stuff from the days before they started peating ... which means that every nuance is there and unmolested by smoke. The citrus in particular shines, a kind of lime-blossom honey sweetness weighted by glorious butterscotch and vanilla mix. Occasionally head towards a slight bourbony note too ... ; the pace, weight and complexity is borderline perfection.
TASTE: brilliant mouthfeel: so silky and soft with the gristy sugars from the malt still at the vanguard. Buttery and rich, but the gently oak doesn’t allow for too much OTT floweriness.
FINISH: the slow-motion movement towards spicy complexity is almost mesmerising ...
BALANCE: old school Bunna at its oldest! Love it! A truly exceptional cask that demands half and hour just to get to know.
