COUNTRY/REGION: Chile/Colchagua Valley.
GRAPES: 38% Syrah, 32% Carignan, 25% Grenache, 4% Marsanne and 1% Other.
This wine's garnet-red colour of medium intensity stands out immediately, revealing a larger presence of grenache in this year’s blend. It displays great complexity on the nose, slowly showing a vast array of aromas which start with herbal and spicy notes, like rosemary and grey pepper, which give way to soft fruity aromas of cassis and blueberries and are completed with soft mineral touches. Floral aromas, as well as some citric notes, such as mandarin, also emerge. Its rich and vibrant acidity stands out on the palate, along with its juicy and fresh structure, making this wine a great Mediterranean blend with a long cellaring potential.
VINEYARDS: The Colchagua Valley is home to the Caliterra Estate, located 200 km south of Santiago and 60 km from the coast at 150 metres above sea level. Caliterra Estate has approximately 1,085 ha with approximately 75% of untouched land and a Mediterranean climate, where cool nights and gentle breezes temper the sun's energy creating perfectly ripe, intense, concentrated and balanced wines. The grapes for this wine were sourced from different blocks within our property/estate. The soil is granitic and white clay, with quartz deep below.
VINTAGE: The challenging 2016 vintage performed different scenarios through the season, with a cool spring and warmer than average summer with a total heat summation that was 10% higher than usual.
WINEMAKING: 85% fermented in stainless steel tanks and 15% in barrels of 2nd use at temperatures of 24°- 26°C for approx. 12-25 days. The blend is then aged in barrels (14% new French) for 18 months.
