COUNTRY/REGION: Chile/Colchagua Valley.
GRAPES: 95% Malbec and 5% Petit Verdot.
UNIT: 1 x 75cl Bottle.
WINEMAKER NOTE: Colchagua is showing the world some of the best exponents of Chilean Malbec. Our Malbec Tributo confirms this statement, and our vineyard once again delivers a great wine full of floral aromas and elegance on the palate.
VINEYARD: The grapes used for the Tributo Malbec come from specially selected lots from the Caliterra Estate in the Colchagua Valley, which extends from the Andes Mountains to the Pacific Ocean through a large part of the Tinguiririca River basin. The Coastal Mountains are lower in Colchagua than anywhere else in the country and allow cool ocean breezes to enter the valley every afternoon, which results in hot days and cool nights during the ripening season. The Caliterra Estate is located 200 km south of Santiago and 60 km from the coast at 150 meters above sea level. The 1,030 hectare property is comprised of 242 hectares under vines: 210 were planted in 1997-1998 and another 32 in 2005. The vineyards are vertically trained and cane-pruned. The deep soils are clay loam (33% clay) and have been drained for proper control of plant vigour.
VINTAGE: The challenging 2016 vintage performed different scenarios through the season, with a cool spring and warmer than average summer with a total heat summation that was 10% higher than usual.
WINEMAKING: The fermentation took place in 70% stainless steel tanks at temperatures of 24°- 26°C and 30% in previously used french oak barrels for approx 20 days. The blend is then aged in French oak barrels for 12 months (9% of which are new)..
TASTING NOTES: The Malbec grape, synonymous with Argentina, also flourishes on the western slopes of the Andes. This is a beautifully concentrated wine with intense fruit, subtle oak and smooth tannins.
