GRAPES: 100% Garnacha.
WINEMAKER NOTES: Here winemaker Jesús Madrazo has taken another classic Rioja grape and made a single varietal wine. Exotically flavoured, smooth and harmonious with rich fruit flavours.
VINEYARDS: The 2012 harvest has been of low yield in the DOC Rioja due to drought that has characterised this vintage. The yield of the vineyard was lower especially in dry land areas and has affected all varieties, especially white but this lack of rain has favoured that the grapes arrived at the winery in excellent health, getting very Mediterranean wines, aromatic and fruity.
VINTAGE: The Pajera, Central and Lentisco plots from our estate where some of the vines are 70 years old.
WINEMAKING: Stringent selection at the vineyard followed by another selection at the sorting table. Alcoholic fermentation took eight days in 100 hectolitres French oak vats at a controlled temperature between 82 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit, followed by another seven days of maceration. The wine was moved into one year old 300 and 500 litre French oak barrels previously used on the 2007 white where it underwent malolactic fermentation. In the second year, the wine was racked into 225 litre used oak barrels and stayed there until it was bottled. The wine spent 5 or 6 months in our underground cellars until its release to the market.
