COUNTRY/REGION: France/Rhone Valley.
GRAPES: 97% Syrah and 3% Roussanne.
UNIT: 1 x 75cl Bottle.
WINEMAKER NOTES: This is a wine of great finesse and purity. A hint of Rousanne in the blend adds complexity. The nose shows red fruit, chocolate and spices leading into an elegant and well-balanced palate with a good structure, well-integrated tannins and long finish. A ‘Grand Vin’ that will show its greatness after a few years careful cellaring.
VINEYARDS: Granitic soils on the best climats of Hermitage.
VINTAGE: The 2011 vintage was defined by a very dry spring followed by unsettled weather during the early part of the summer but with good ripening conditions from mid-August onwards. Grapes were concentrated and with good structure and tannins.
WINEMAKING: The classical vinification includes complete de-stemming followed by long macerations. The wine is matured in oak barrels for 18 months (1/3 new, 1/3 1 year old, 1/3 2 years old barrels.)
TASTING NOTES: Le Rouet is one of Jean-Luc’s ‘Grand’ fishing haunts and this ‘Grand Vin’, like a good fisherman shows its greatness after time. Pure, well-balanced and full of personality. A hint of Roussanne in the blend adds complexity to the chocolate and spice notes.
