COUNTRY/REGION: France/Rhone Valley.
GRAPES: 51% Grenache and 49% Syrah.
UNIT: 1 x 75cl Bottle.
WINEMAKER NOTES: From 60 year old plus vines grown on chalky soils. 100% Jean-Luc Domaine, this single vineyard wine is a declassified Cornas which offers superb value. An original and unique Syrah, it is richly aromatic with a very fine structure and good attack of small ripe fruits (raspberries, blackberries and blueberries) on the palate, with a finish where notes of violets, liquorice and spices dominate.
VINEYARD: Very steep slopes of the Northern Rhône exposed East-South East. Limestone soil.
VINTAGE: A cold spring delayed the growth cycle of the vines and harvest was roughly three weeks later than average. The quality of the grapes was excellent but quantities were well down on a typical year.
WINEMAKING: The grapes are de-stemmed and lightly crushed before being vinified in temperature controlled stainless steel vats. The wine is matured during 9 months, 25% in oak barrels (1 to 4 years old) before bottling.
TASTING NOTES: A ‘reserve’ level Côtes du Rhône, Les Forots (The Forest) offers superb value as a notch up. Syrah and Grenache blend at its finest, structured, spicy with notes of perfumed violets.
