Only from the finest vintages in the Clare Valley do we produce a Duke Reserve Grenache. 2012 provided that opportunity; the perfectly slow ripened fruit, intense flavours and aromatics, fine grained tannins, all beautifully matched to a blend of new and seasoned French oak casks to quietly build texture and complexity within.
Made in very limited quantities and sourced from an eighty year old vineyard in the heart of Watervale, the hand picked fruit parcels were destemmed and fermented in an open topped vessel on skins, until complete dryness, before basket pressing to small French oak casks to mature for 16 months. No fining or filtration were done before bottling and the wine enjoyed will over a year in the cellar before its current release.
Appearance: Brick red in colour with vibrant crimson hues.
Nose: Seductively perfumed in a style all of its own, layered notes of chocolate, liqueur and truffles all interwoven with quality French oak char.
Palate: Richly focused and enticing, the flavours of dark chocolate, earthiness and seasoned oak complex together in a tightly wound yet deliciously long finish.
Ratings: 95 Points James Halliday's Australian Wine Companion 2016.
