Vidal / 2014 Legacy Cabernet Sauvignon

COUNTRY/REGION: New Zealand/Hawkes Bay.

GRAPES: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon.

ABV: 13.5%

This perfumed Cabernet Sauvignon from the Gimblett Gravels wine growing District shows intense aromatics of blackcurrant, dried herbs, graphite and cedar notes. The rich and concentrated palate of dark fruit combines with integrated cedar, spice and mocha notes. Elegantly balanced, and textured with fine grained tannins this wine finishes with excellent mineral length. Distinct and age worthy with the ability to age gracefully for up to 20 years from vintage in good cellar conditions.

VINEYARDS: Fruit for this wine was grown entirely in the Gimblett Gravels grape growing district where the soil is made up of relatively recent alluvial deposits of gravel with varying degrees of silt and sand. These naturally free-draining, low vigour, lean sites combined with meticulous vineyard management and the long, warm growing season have produced a wine of international standard showing intensity, texture and depth of flavour. Sensational drinking.

VINTAGE: 2014 was an outstanding Hawkes Bay vintage and joins 2013 as one of the truly great vintages of all time. Warm, dry and settled conditions prevailed throughout the season allowing the picking decision to be based purely on flavour and balance. Naturally low yielding vines combined with early season “green harvesting” and meticulous canopy management throughout the season have rewarded us with perfect ripeness, flavour development, concentration and tannin maturity.

WINEMAKING: 100% Destemmed and crushed, the wine is hand plunges and fermentation takes place in an open top fermenter at 30-34 degrees. The wine is then matured for 20 months in French barriques.

DELIVERY: All our wines are stored in our importers warehouse’s, which have the optimum environment for fine wine storage, by carefully regulating temperature, humidity and other microclimatic factors.
