COUNTRY/REGION: New Zealand/Hawkes Bay.
GRAPES: 70% Merlot, 28% Cabernet Sauvignon, 1% Malbec and 1% Cabernet Franc.
VINEYARD: The 2018 summer was highlighted by its warmth and dryness, setting vineyards up well for autumn harvest. Careful fruit selection combined with quality vineyards - typified by free draining, infertile, gravelly soils and low yields - allowed us to harvest bunches exhibiting purity, ripeness, and fine tannin.
WINE MAKING: In keeping with our estate’s small batch winemaking philosophy, blocks were harvested, fermented and matured in individual batches to capture the uniqueness of each parcel. Gently crushed grapes were fermented and macerated on skins before being pressed and matured in tank and seasoned French oak. Malolactic fermentation and 10 months maturation have helped
to evolve the wine’s character and flavour while softening the tannins.
TASTING NOTES: This classic blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and small parcels of Malbec and Cabernet Franc displays aromas of red fruits, cedar and dried herbs with flavours of plum and blackcurrant. The smooth finish on the palate is supported by supple, approachable tannins.
