Villa Maria / 2014 Single Vineyard Taylors Pass Chardonnay.

COUNTRY/REGION: New Zealand/Marlborough.

GRAPES: 100% Chardonnay.

ABV: 14%

UNIT: 1 x 75cl Bottle.

WINEMAKER NOTES: A complex, refined and mineral-driven Chardonnay displaying stylish finesse. The wine exhibits elegance, with aromas of subtle citrus and complex smoky notes intermingling on the nose. The palate displays layers of citrus and subtle integrated oak enhancing the tight and flinty finish.

VINEYARDS: Taylors Pass Vineyard is located on a warm, stony terrace on the Northern side of the Awatere River. This naturally devigouring site provides low yields. This coupled with extensive canopy manipulation and the clone, CL 95 provides fruit with excellent primary expression.

VINTAGE: The climate in Marlborough has high sunshine hours, but temperatures during the growing season are regulated by the cooling ocean influence. In 2014, Marlborough had a warmer than usual spring, followed by a temperate summer.

WINEMAKING: Grapes were handpicked and whole-bunched pressed before fermentation in oak barrels (25% of which were fine french oak). The wine was matured for16 months before being minimally filtered and then bottled in August 2015.

TASTING NOTES: This wine has been gently crafted using a natural approach to winemaking. The result is an intriguing, delicate and complex Chardonnay displaying stylish finesse. It is elegant with aromas of subtle citrus, predominantly lemon. Mineral and complex smoky notes also intermingle on the nose. The palate has complex layers of citrus and minerals, finishing with a long tight structure.
