WINEMAKER NOTES: Powerful aromas of lime and passionfruit combine with underlying green capsicum and subtle flinty notes. The palate is full and rich exploding with blackcurrant leaf, grapefruit and complex mineral characters. The intense fruit notes are complemented by a finely woven acidity, creating a long lingering finish.
VINEYARDS: The Maxwell Vineyard is situated in the exceptional Southern Clays area, nestled in the gentle north facing foothills of the Ben Morven Valley in Marlborough. The vineyard's clay soils, coupled with a strong pursuit of vine health and balance, have resulted in fruit of outstanding quality.
VINTAGE: After a relatively cool start, mid to late October provided warm conditions for bud burst. Although there was some changeable weather in November and early December with cooler temperatures and average rainfall lower than usual, flowering was generally successful and as a result fruit set was good across all varieties. The successful flowering meant that further bunch thinning was required to reduce yields to suitable levels. The vineyards were blessed with great weather conditions thorough the rest of the year.
WINEMAKING: The juice received a long and cool fermentation to retain the fruit's intense varietal characters. The wine was aged on yeast lees for four months to enhance palate texture and complexity before bottling.
TASTING NOTES: This exuberant wine has a nose bursting with ripe and pungent passionfruit, exotic tropical fruit and an herbaceous lime edge. The palate is vibrant and lively, the pungent fruit is complemented by juicy crisp acidity, finishing with fantastic intensity and length.
