WINEMAKER NOTES: Full morello cherry and ruby red appearance. Ripe red and autumnal fruits such as raspberries, damsons and sloes abound along with a fine vanilla complexity. This wine is rich, deep and balanced. Well structured on the palate with plenty of fine, lingering rich fruits and lively tannins. The finish is elegant, long and with a good balancing acidity.

VINEYARDS: Carefully selected vineyards in the Alavesa sub-region of Rioja.

VINTAGE: This harvest was characterised by a delay to the vine development cycle caused by low spring temperatures, high rainfall and a short summer. Harvest started on the 30th September and pleasant temperatures were experienced in October, allowing for a good vintage in spite of the unfavourable weather experienced throughout the year. Harvest ended on the 31st October with overall good expectations for the wines from 2013.

WINEMAKING: Hand harvested mainly from Vina Real's Rioja Alavesa vineyards. Following a short pre-fermentation maceration, fermentation was carried out at a controlled temperature to retain primary varietal aromas. The young wine was transferred into 225 litre american oak casks, where it remained for between 12 - 14 months, regularly racked to create finesse. The wine was then lightly fined using egg whites before bottling.

TASTING NOTES: Beautifully ripe and richly fruity with rich aromas of fruitcake and spices. This Crianza is smooth and supple in the mouth with perfectly integrated oak, a rounded silky texture and smooth tannins.
